The
Panama Canal is considered "the Eighth Wonder of
the World". It was built between 1904 and 1914 by the
United States of America thanks to the treaty signed between
the United States of America and Panama, named Hay Buneau-Varilla.
The Canal has a distance of 80 kilometers long between the
Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. A vessel takes approximately
between 8 and 10 hours to cross the Canal from ocean to
ocean. On December 31, 1999, the operations and administration
of the Canal were transferred in its totality to Panama,
upon implementation of the Torrijos-Carter Treaty. Ten to
twenty minutes from the City of Panama, you can arrive to
the "Visitors Centers at the Miraflores Locks",
where you can closely observe this engineering marvel. This
recently remodeled center has a museum, restaurants, auditorium
and souvenir ship for your comfort.
